If you own a classic car, you already know that it’s just not like the average vehicle you see out on the road. After all, your vehicle is most likely at least 20 years old and is considered a collectible. Unlike the regular midsize SUVs, trucks, and compacts that flood Colorado roads every day, your vehicle is likely only taken out for special occasions and is a testament to years of precise maintenance, craftsmanship, and care.
So let’s get it covered properly. At Advantage Service Insurance, we offer classic / vintage car insurance to those in the Erie, CO area and beyond.
Now, you may be wondering why you can’t (or rather, shouldn’t) just opt for a regular auto insurance policy on your classic car. While you can do this if you want, the truth is that a classic auto policy often offers a better deal since you most likely don’t take your classic or vintage car out on the road every day like other cars. A regular auto policy also may not provide the extensive coverage you would need in the event of an accident since classic cars usually require parts and maintenance not found at your average mechanic shop.
A classic car insurance policy is therefore geared specifically toward older, well-maintained vehicles and those that were part of a limited release.
You most likely qualify for classic car insurance if you have it registered with the state DMV as one. And if your vehicle is registered in Colorado, it most likely was already listed as a classic car. If you do not already have it registered, you will need to have it pass an emissions test and may be required to provide photos (especially if it was reconstructed). In general, this kind of registration can be obtained for vehicles built before 1976 or are at least 32 years old, although some exceptions may be made.
